Cal Harrelson, TOP PRODUCER and LISTING AGENT OF THE YEAR for most of his 30-years as a full-time Realtor in the fastest-growing U.S. County (Horry) and Georgetown County; and receiving the Realtor Image Award, “Reflecting the highest integrity in his real estate business as voted by his peers”, as reported in The Sun News. Harrelson has been involved in his community through Rotary International, Boy Scouts of America, March of Dimes’ Walk America, Church deacon board as chairman, United Way, American Cancer Society, SC Crawfish Festival, Palmettos for Garden City Beach, and Georgetown County Chamber of Commerce as President, where he established today’s most popular “Leadership Georgetown” program.
In 1986 Harrelson founded The Harrelson Group, PR and Marketing Firm in Historic Coastal Pawleys Island, SC. He developed and implemented public relations and marketing plans in order to win, keeping his clients on top, and was successful 100% of the time. When you list a property for sale you want a Realtor with a driven and successful marketing background. Real estate is all about marketing, pricing, and relationship. Just as Cal got clients in the news, he can get you a seat at the table of qualified buyers. He earned exposure for clients on The Today Show, NPR, CNN, Washington Post, Golf Digest (center spread), Southern Living Magazine (front cover), and in every daily newspaper in the United States.
Previously, Harrelson was the Director of Reagan-Bush Campaign ’84 for South Carolina, directed successful Congressional campaigns; and was Director of fundraising for the South Carolina Republican Party. In addition, Cal has been Director of Santee Cooper Country (Division of S.C. PRT), directing national and regional promotion of recreation and tourism. As director of public relations for Olan Mills’ funded Wachesaw Plantation, Murrells Inlet, SC, Cal launched public relations activity for this successful, first-ever, private upscale Intracoastal Waterway residential community.
Harrelson’s education includes Heathwood Hall Episcopal School and The University of South Carolina, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Order. During college, Harrelson worked with The Keenan Company Real Estate in its commercial real estate division.
In summary, Harrelson’s professional experience has ranged from regional and national marketing/business development of upscale real estate developments, investment, and second-homes; to building tourism trade for resort communities; strengthening public identity/posture and building new business for clients; increasing customer traffic for retail establishments; and to the giving of his time for the betterment of his community. Cal and his Clemson Tiger wife, Julie, are parents of a son who has taken to his Dad’s love of hunting, fishing, mountain-biking, Boykin Spaniels, hiking, and the noticing of all things small in the woods and in life. Calhoun, a South Carolina (and Horry County) native, appreciates all aspects of South Carolina, having lived in the South Carolina Midlands, Upstate, and along the beautiful South Carolina Coast. Cal’s family moved to the Coast in 1924, after which his Grandfather became the first Mayor of Myrtle Beach in 1938; and his dad was publisher of the Myrtle Beach Times, a weekly paper and precursor to the Sun News.
Cal has recently discovered the art of painting the iconic South Carolina State tree, the Palmetto. These works of art are called “Calmettos”. For several Christmas’s, the Honorable Nikki Haley, former Governor of South Carolina, and US Ambassador has commissioned Cal to paint Original Calmettos for her to give as personal Christmas gifts to her top donors and staff. “I’m so excited about doing these commemorative gifts for my team for Christmas,” said Governor Haley. Original calmetto paintings are hanging in the SC Governor’s Mansion, SC State Museum, SC State House, the home of Donald Trump in the Trump Tower, beach home of Lt. Col. Oliver North, halls of Congress, Bruce Johnston – original member of the Beach Boys (keyboard), US Ambassador to Switzerland and in the Ohio home of golf legend, Jack Nicklaus, Germany, Spain and in homes all over the US. The calmettos story has been featured in such magazines as “Talk Greenville”, “Grand Strand Magazine”, “She Magazine” of Florence and the Pee Dee.
